Local Garden Club Hosts Valley Lode District Meeting
The Lodi Garden Club hosted the Valley Lode District meeting on Feb., 11, 2025. The meeting was attended by garden club members from Gardeners and garden enthusiasts from Ceres, Escalon, the Foothills, Linden, Knights Ferry, Manteca, Modesto, Newman, Oakdale, Patterson, Ripon, Salida, Stockton, Lodi, Tuolumne, and Turlock. Our featured speaker was Stuart Spencer and Stephanie Bolton of the Lodi Wine Commission.
Stuart Spencer updated the group on the current state of the wine industry, the impacts on Lodi winegrape growers and the actions and activites the Lodi Wine Commission was taking. Stuart Spencer has become a "go-to" speaker and advocate for the area's winegrape growers. This has brought more attention to the area. Stephanie Bolton shared the Lodi Rules sustainable farming program with attendees. She tied in the practices in gardening with many of the attributes of the Lodi Rules program. Stephanie has made the group aware of some of the invasive plants and what to do.
Overall, the meeting was a great success!

Holidays & History
Holidays and History was the theme for the Lodi Garden Club's 2024 Christmas Tree displayed in the Weber gallery at the San Joaquin County Historical Musuem's 2024 Festival of Trees. Club members handmade most of the ornaments from bookpages. Ornaments included images of Lodi's history in agriculture, its people and traditions. Of course, the Lodi Arch was the tree topper! Overall the 2024 Festival of Trees was a huge success with record attendance.
